St. George Has Got It All
There are plenty of reasons why it’s difficult to stay away from St. George, but one of its most beautiful calling cards is its proximity to Zion National Park. With near perfect weather year-round, including moderate winters, thisparadise in the southwest corner of Utah shouldn’t be missed.
Snow Canyon State Park
Snow Canyon State Park would undoubtedly be a national park if it were anywhere else but Utah. This gem of a park is named for early leaders in the State of Utah but rarely sees snow of its own. Boasting 16 miles of hiking trails, Snow Canyon State Park doesn’t stop there. Consider the following enticements:
- Prime spots for technical rock climbing
- Horseback riding opportunities
- Photo ops for days
- Diverse wildlife
All of this is set against eye-popping views of towering sandstone cliffs painted in vibrant hues.

Zion National Park
Zion is Utah’s first national park and it attracts visitors, and its epic beauty attracts visitors from far and wide. Graced by immense sandstone cliffs that are bathed in creams, pinks, and reds and set against the sky’s brilliant blue, Zion doesn’t disappoint, and with all the following activities at hand, you’ll never run out of things to do, including:
- World class backpacking and hiking that range from easy strolls to outsize adventures
- Biking – both Pa’rus Trail and Zion Canyon Scenic Drive are accessible for bicyclists
- Birding – with 291 confirmed species of gorgeous birds
- Canyoneering
- Climbing, including overnight bivouacs (with permit)
- Guided horseback riding from March through October
- Activities run by Rangers
- River trips
- Unparalleled sunsets and stargazing
- Picnicking
The Narrows is one of the most popular spots in the park, and it represents the narrowest portion of Zion Canyon. This gorge’s 1,000-foot walls enclose a river that narrows to just 20 to 30 feet wide and can be experienced from a paved, wheelchair accessible Riverside Walk that stretches for a mile from the Temple of Sinawava. If you are raring for more, however, you’ll need to wade upstream through the Virgin River. Hiking through the narrows affords some of the canyon’s most spectacular views.
If scenic drives are more your thing, you’ve also come to the right place.
