Cedar Breaks National Monument

Tradition has it that the early Paiute people referred to what is now Cedar Breaks National Monument as the Circle of Painted Cliffs, and the name couldn’t be more apt. This naturally carved amphitheater is home to a wide array of wildlife and ancient bristlecone pines. This massive formation is 2,500 feet deep and more than 3 miles wide and reflects the abundant mineral deposits that are responsible for its glory. There is a scenic six-mile drive around the theater, including four overlooks, that affords spectacular views from a range of perspectives. There are also hikes for all skill levels, including the following which are ranked from the easiest to the most strenuous:

  • Sunset Trail
  • Nature Trail
  • Alpine Pond Nature Trail
  • South Rim Trail

Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon was formed by eons of wind and erosion’s artful hand, leaving a painterly mural of exploding colors and surprising formations. To make it that much more mesmerizing, the view changes with every sweep of the second hand. The stargazing at Bryce Canyon is next level. One of the most inspiring hikes is the Rim trail, which spans 5.5 miles one way but allows you to experience the entire amphitheater from the rim looking in.

Lake Powell

Those in the know call Lake Powell the water playground of the West, and if you love floating in sparkling, crisp waters, it’s the place for you. This waterway stretches along hundreds of miles of white, sandy beaches that are set against eye-popping vistas and red rock cliffs. At Lake Powell, all the following are on the itinerary:

  • Swimming
  • Backcountry hiking
  • Off-roading
  • Fishing
  • Boating
  • Water skiing

Zion National Park

This geological wonder showcases some of the highest sandstone cliffs in the world, and its massive footprint leads to unique micro-environments that include hanging gardens, isolated mesas, and forested side canyons. One of the most jaw-dropping trails in Zion is Angel’s Landing, which includes a route that traverses a steep, narrow ridge and is not for hikers who lack confidence or are afraid of heights – and is not appropriate for children. Pa’rus trail is an easy, paved 3.5-mile trek that follows the gorgeous Virgin River and is the only path approved for leashed pets in the park.

Dixie National Forest

Dixie National Forest covers 2 million acres and offers something for everyone in the form of deep canyons, breathtaking rock formations, lakes, mountains, and majestic ponderosa pines. Whether you’re interested in fishing, hiking, or simply embracing the natural beauty, you’ve come to the right place.
