Scenic Drives

Scenic road in the Capitol Reef National Park, USA.

The Scenic Drive

There are several gorgeous scenic drives in the park, and one of them has the poetic name of The Scenic Drive, which is about 8 miles of paved road that offers impressive views of the park’s glory. Your passenger car can handle this one.

Cathedral Fold

Cathedral Fold is a remote and rugged region that you’ll need high-ground clearance to traverse. This trip will take about 6 to 8 hours, and It affords stunning views and plenty of trailheads along the way. Because this area is so remote, however, it’s critical that you put safety first, which includes bringing plenty of water for everyone in your party and letting someone responsible know where you’re going and when you should arrive back.

Looping the Fold

A unique and primary characteristic of this park is its water pocket fold, which is a vibrantly hued 100-mile fold in the earth’s crust, and the Looping the Fold scenic drive allows you expansive views of the park’s geology at its most spectacular. Again, because the area is so remote, it’s important to plan ahead, make safety your top concern, and watch the weather.

Capitol Reef
