Hiking Trails

In addition to getting out on the many miles of motorized trails in the forest, there are a range of stellar hiking trails that you won’t want to miss, including:

  • Bullion Falls is about 2 miles long, takes about 90 minutes to hike, and is worth every step. With a spectacular 60-foot waterfall at the end and another one halfway up the trail, this is a gorgeous trek that has a moderate rating in terms of difficulty.
  • Skyline National Recreation Trail to Blue Lake comes in with a rating of challenging, and this 13.2-mile round-trip route delivers – in terms of both the challenging terrain and the gorgeous scenery.

There are also less strenuous hikes throughout the forest that are well suited to less-experienced hikers and those who are more interested in leisurely strolls.

The Pando

Fishlake National Forest is also home to the largest example of the largest organism in the world – according to mass – which is the aspen tree. The colony of clones here, called the Pando, weighs nearly 13 million pounds and is a sight to behold.
